Antique Norway Norse-Viking God Odin Drawing
This awesome antique Norway Norse-Viking God Odin pen & ink drawing was done by Norwegian artist Wilhelm Karl Nilsen on December 29, 1923 in Oslo, Norway. Ironically, that just happened to be the day my mother was born! I tried to do some research on the artist, and was only able to discover that he went to college at the University of Oslo in 1902 when he is listed in a college publication. I have found no other examples of work by this artist, but judging by the mastery shown in his execution of this drawing, surely he created other works. The writing on the back of this piece says that it was framed in 1974, so I'm guessing he lived that long. I would just bet that he is now deceased. Depicting Odin, the one-eyed King of the Gods in Norse-Viking mythology, the level of detail in this drawing is breath taking. Odin looks exactly like you would expect the face of a Norse-Viking God to look. The lines on his face, the details such as his hair are just stunning! The image area is roughly 18 1/2 inches by 13 1/2 inches, and comes double-matted in archival quality mats and mounted in a black hardwood frame with glass. As you can see by the photos, outside the frame, the image area has some age yellowing. The mat reaches right to the edge of that yellowed area, so you'd never know it was there unless you take it out of the frame. Due to the size of this item, it will require a special box, which will add about $7.00 to the shipping cost. Price-$999.99 + Shipping/Special Box |
